If you have been watching the news lately then you know that "Big Foot" has made a return. Two dudes in North Georgia claim to have found "Big Foot" and his family. (Here is one of several hundred links in case you are not up to date - http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/08/15/big-foot-discovery.html.)
I got to thinking about this fascination with "Big Foot". Why are people so enamored with the news of "Big Foot"? I think it has everything to do with a desire to come close to that which is holy. Discovery is important to humanity because he longs to see the mysterious revealed. People are fascinated with the unknown. It is the reason people are searching the water for the LochNess monster, the sky for aliens and the land for "Big Foot". They want to have knowledge of the HOLY. Holiness means more than just purity. It means that a certain thing, person or place is set apart from the rest. It is the desire to discover holiness that drives us to look in the water, to the skies, in the woods and even in ourselves to find that which is holy. This is where the problem lies. We will never find the holiness we desire in those places or things.
True knowledge of the Holy is revealed in God's Word. It's the place to search if you want to find that which is set above all the rest. Discover the Holy in the Bible.

Chris, I agree with your blog about discovery being important to humanity because he longs to see the mysterious revealed. So I began to consider the ways humanity has tried to reveal the myterious and find the Holy and then I went to Scripture and studied and made some comments about them for considersation.
1. Evidence for God— We can demonstrate "beyond a reasonable doubt" that "He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).
2. Cause and Effect— Everything Has A Cause—Every single effect first had a cause that can be traced to a previous effect from another cause, and so on. In simple terms, every cause must be at least as great as the effect that it produces—and will, in reality, produce an effect that is less than the cause. That is, any effect must have a greater cause. But where did it begin? It all started with a single First Cause—the God who is above and existed before all other causes.
3. The Triune Universe— "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Time is not eternal, but created. To ask what happened in time before time was created is to create a false paradox without meaning. There was no "before" prior to the creation of the triune universe of time, space, and mass/energy. Yet even more amazing (and the universe is amazing) is the historic fact that the Creator-God, after purposefully creating the time-space-matter universe, chose to enter it in the God-human person of Jesus Christ—for the sole purpose of providing a means by which humanity could have a personal relationship with the Creator.
4. Design and Purpose--Humans are unique from every other living organism in the world, specially created and specially purposed. The Earth is also like no other planet, specially created by God for humans, and we can observe evidence of His design elements in His creation.
5. The Four Mysteries of King Solomon— Three things are wondrous to me, and four I do not know. Proverbs 30:18
6. The “Mysteries of Light—the traditional joyful, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries and center on the public ministry of Jesus: his baptism by John in the Jordan, the wedding at Cana, the proclamation of the Kingdom of God and call to conversion, the Transfiguration, and the institution of the Holy Communion.
7. The Star of Bethlehem: The Biblical account says that the star "came and stood over where the young child was" (Matthew 2:9). That seems to indicate that, it was over Bethlehem. Obviously, they (the Magi) didn't need the star to guide them to Bethlehem, but when they saw it again, they "rejoiced with exceeding great joy," because this meant that their understanding of Scripture was right and this was, indeed, His Star!
8. The Mysteries of Creation and Resurrection—The universal reign of death in the world is explainable only in terms of the Creator's curse on man and his dominion because of his sin (Genesis 3:17-19). Since God the Creator was the one who imposed this universal law of death, it is only He who can supersede and change it.
The unique bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is clear proof that He is God, as well as man, because only God could conquer death. The great Creator became the Son of Man, that He might die for man's sin, but He also remained God and death could not hold Him!
His first great work -- that of Creation -- was finished from the foundation of the world (Genesis 2:1-3; Hebrews 11:3). Creation was perfect and complete from the beginning; it needed no further assistance from an imaginary process of evolution to finish the job.
In the same way, His second work -- that of Redemption -- was now also perfect and complete. After suffering hell itself -- spiritual death -- on the cross, dying alone under all the weight of the sins of every man, He shouted in victory "It is finished!" (John 19:30). He dismissed His spirit from his body, allowing it to be buried in certain testimony that His death was also physical death. When He returned to the body three days later, imparting to it a glorious, eternal, resurrection life, He demonstrated to all men of all the ages that He indeed was the Creator, that the problem of sin had been solved, and that death had forever lost its sting.
The redemption price has been paid, and one day, "the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of decay into the glorious liberty of the children of God" (Romans 8:21).
Until that day when He "makes all things new" (Revelation 21:5); His promise of forgiveness, salvation, resurrection and eternal life is available on an individual basis to every person who believes Him and accepts His Word. "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life" (Romans 5:10).
9. The Message: There are over 3,000 different religions in the world, all of which claim to teach the way to eternal happiness. It has often been said that each of them provides a different path to the same end, and that men are free to choose the path that best suits their own disposition and culture. The Word of God is insistent that this is not so!
The Bible insists that the God of the Bible is the only true God (Isaiah 44:6; 45:5-6) and that Jesus Christ is the only way to God (John 14:6).
All other religions, while stressing their “paths,” would allow for some other contingency.
The Bible insists that it is the only true revelation, that its words are not to be changed (Proverbs 30:5-6; Revelation 22:18-19), and that its words are the basis of all judgment (John 12:47-50).
The Bible has a unique account of origins (Genesis 1-11). All others are either evolutionary or pantheistic, with eternity of matter as the “beginning.” The biblical account of origins is unique in both quality and quantity of information.
The Bible has a unique historical basis. Other religions are based on the subjective teachings of their founders. Biblical teachings are based on objective and demonstrable facts: creation, the fall, the flood, the life and work of redemption of Christ.
The Bible teaches a unique plan of redemption. It reveals a unique Savior.
● He was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25).
● He lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:14-16).
● He taught as no other man taught (John 7:46; Matthew 7:28-29).
● He died a unique, volitional death (John 10:17-18; Luke 23:46).
● He had unique victory over death (Acts 17:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
The Bible demands a unique salvation.
● Perfect holiness is required (Romans 3:10-18, 23; 6:23).
● Substitutionary atonement is the only means of reconciliation (Hebrews 10:4-14; Romans 3:24-26).
● Grace is the only measurement (Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 11:5-6).
Other religions require some form of works or participation.
